’PLUMB (Pneumothorax after Lung Biopsy: Understanding the Management Basis) is the first-ever multicentre prospective mixed method study to understand the reasons of chest drainage in pneumothorax after lung biopsy.
The aim is to investigate the underpinning factors that guide decision making in managing these patients using observational patient data and qualitative interviews with physicians.
The study started recruiting in Dec’24 and is currently running in 12 sites (aiming for 20 sites) across the UK. The study will finish recruitment in October 2025 and the results are likely to be available by the end of 2026.
